Alison has a background in furniture design, and earned her master's degree in industrial design from Pratt Institute in 2012. She studied Scandinavian design in Copenhagen, Denmark, and refined her aesthetic while working for John Boone Inc., a high-end furniture design company in NYC.

After moving to the Hudson Valley in 2018, Alison dove into the home improvement industry and worked as a Kitchen and Bath Designer at Madison Square Design, in Kingston, NY until 2023 when she decided to focus on her own multi-faceted design firm, Alison Zavracky Design Studio. She is also the furniture designer and maker for a new lifestyle brand called Studio Hinterland.
